Our Front Page with Kindergarten
This term in English, Kindergarten have been exploring characters. Yesterday we dressed up as creative characters and then we took a photo and completed the rest of our character's costume using the 'Sketches' app on the iPads. We are now going to write about our characters and use the 'Bump It Up Wall' to make our writing even better! We had so much fun dressing up as characters!

Our Gospel Reflection
This Sunday our Gospel comes from the Book of Luke and tells of the time when Jesus is transfigured on the mountain in the presence of Peter, James, and John.
Every family has special moments that they remember and share. In sharing these stories, the meaning and importance of these events develop and deepen over time. This is how it was with the disciples' remembrance of Jesus' Transfiguration. The full significance of what they had seen and experienced could only be understood after Jesus' death and Resurrection. As they told other believers about this event and recorded the story for us in the Bible, our understanding of what it means to call Jesus God's own Son has also deepened.
Gather as a family and think about some special family memories that your family tells over and over again. Talk about why these memories are important to you. Recall that in the Bible we find many important memories about Jesus that have been recorded for us so that we can believe that Jesus is God's Son. Read today's Gospel, Luke 9:28–36. What do we learn about Jesus from this Gospel? (He fulfills the promises God made to Israel through the Law and the Prophets; God glorified Jesus in his Resurrection; Jesus is God's Son.) Conclude in prayer together that as we continue to read the Bible we will deepen our understanding and love for Jesus. Pray together the Lord's Prayer.
From Our Principal
Over the past 2 years, our school has been involved in a learning initiative with acclaimed educationalist, Dr Lyn Sharratt, where we have been focusing on the improvement of our students' writing through a whole school approach. This Writing Collaborative has been introduced to many schools in our diocese and through the efforts of all staff, we are witnessing the fruits of the Writing Collaborative.
On Tuesday of this week, we were fortunate to have 6 Principals and members of the Catholic Schools Office join us here at school to share in our learnings from the Lyn Sharratt Learning Collaborative. Over this focused journey, we have been seeking ‘clarity’ around writing and working to improve the learning outcomes for students in this area.
Our visitors were posed with an inquiry question and spent close to an hour walking through our classrooms and taking the time to talk to our students about their writing and how they are progressing with this area of learning. The Principals and members of the CSO were absolutely amazed at how articulate the students of St Brigid's were when talking about their writing and how they can continue to improve. I would like to share with you some of the feedback.
"The teachers here certainly know their students. They know them so well and are catering for both academic and their social emotional needs"
"the students were certainly using the 'where to next' to improve their writing"
"All students at St Brigid's know exactly where to go to for support whether it be the adults in the room or supports on the walls"
I am so looking forward to accompanying our Wakakirri Troupe as they head off to Brisbane next Wednesday to take part for the first time "live" on stage. There has been so much time and effort given by students and staff to enable this to happen and next Wednesday will be the culmination of their hard work. I have watched a number of rehearsals and the story told by the students through dance is truly emotional and a credit to all involved.
As written below our school is inviting all families to take part in the 'Tell Them From Me' surveys. Access can be made through the following link:-

Principal Learning Collaborative Visit
St Mary of the Cross Liturgy
This Monday the 8th August will be the celebration of the feast of Australia’s first saint, St Mary MacKillop. Many of you are very familiar with the story of Mary MacKillop and the amazing qualities she demonstrated to the people of her era.
We invite all to our Liturgy this coming Monday at 12:20pm in our Parish Hall where we will honour and acknowledge the life of this remarkable Australian woman.
The life of St Mary MacKillop is as significant today as it was to the people of her time. She taught us that life is precious and the impact we can have on our world is in essence only brief. Using her wise words, ‘We are but travellers here’, let us work together to make a positive impact on those around us each and every day.
Assumption of Mary
On Monday 15th August we will be celebrating the feast of the Assumption of Mary with a whole school mass commencing at 12 noon in Our Lady of Sorrows Church. All families and friends are most welcome to join with us on this day as we acknowledge the special person of Mary and how she was taken up into heaven, body and soul.
Following our mass, all parents and grandparents are most welcome to come across to school and have lunch with their children / grandchildren.
Family Mass
Following the relaxing of some COVID regulations, we are so pleased to announce that our Family Weekend Masses will be commencing on Sunday 28th August at the 9am Parish Mass. Our students from Stage 2 will be leading the mass and we would like to see as many families as possible come along and celebrate. Following mass, all are invited to stay for a cuppa and enjoy the company of each other.
As a part of the mass, there will be Children's Liturgy, allowing our young ones the opportunity to have the message of our mass in a more child friendly way. The children accompany their family in to the church at the beginning of Mass, and then following the welcome by Fr Erick, the children leave to go to the Parish Meeting Room to hear the Word at a level that they can understand. It is designed for children aged from 3 – 12 years. The activity that follows the Gospel of the day, is age appropriate.
The Family Mass will be held on the 4th Sunday of each month. Upcoming masses are as follows - Sunday 28th August, Sunday 23rd October and Sunday 27th November.
All families are most welcome to attend even if your child is not in either Year 3 or Year 4.
Wakakirri Update
Not long now until the Wakakirri Troupe hits the road for their performance in Brisbane. All students have been given the information from Mrs Kennedy. Please note the following change in relation to the venue:-
The 2022 Wakakirri performance will be at Logan Entertainment Centre, not the HOTA as previously communicated. All tickets purchased are for the Logan Entertainment Centre. An updated timetable will be sent home before next Wednesday. The bus will still be leaving at the same time and returning approximately the same time. We will be communicating through the Skoolbag App throughout the day. If you have any concerns please contact Mrs Kennedy.
NAIDOC Celebrations
Our school will be celebrating and acknowledging NAIDOC next Friday the 12th of August. We will commence with a liturgy at 12 noon in the Parish Hall and then after lunch taking part in a number of cultural activities. These include face painting, Indigenous games, Kangaroo stew tasting and shell painting.
All students are most welcome to come to school dressed in the Indigenous colours of red, yellow and black or wear Indigenous themed clothing. There will be no cost for the activities.

COVID Update
As always, we appreciate your support when it comes to your child/ren being unwell in that you keep them home until they are well enough to return. If you or someone in your family tests positive for COVID, students are still able to attend school. It is recommended that they wear a mask whilst at school.
We are maintaining our COVID safe practices here at school by ensuring that we:
* Stay home if unwell or showing any symptoms & not returning until we are fully recovered
* Rapid antigen test when exhibiting symptoms & for close contacts who are able to be at school
* Practise good hygiene including regular hand washing & sanitising before eating & entering classrooms.
RATs are available on request and can be sent home with your child/ren as needed. If you require RATs, please email the school (kyogp@lism.catholic.edu.au). All children were given a pack of 5 RATs this week. We appreciate your support in helping us to keep our school community safe and well over the coming weeks.
Tell Them From Me
In the coming weeks, we will be inviting students, teachers, teacher assistants, and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
We would like to invite you to complete the 'Tell Them From Me' (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing here at St Brigid's Primary School.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Please access the survey through the following link:-
