Grandparent's Day
Thank you to all of the wonderful Grandparent's who attended our liturgy last Tuesday. We enjoyed celebrating the significant place you hold in the hearts of our students and our school community. The warm sunshine provided the perfect opportunity for shared lunches in our gardens and a stroll through the Book Fair display. It was energising and exciting for all to have our school community back face to face, celebrating together!

Our Gospel Reflection
Family life helps us learn about the values of solidarity and the common good. As a family, we strive to respect the rights of each family member and make decisions that promote the common good of the family. Talk about what it would be like if the family ordered a pizza and then divided it unevenly, with some members getting as many pieces as they wanted while others got only a half slice. Talk about how you work to make sure that everyone in the family has his or her fair share.
Talk about how your family is also a member of the human family, called to share the goods of creation fairly and justly. In this Sunday's Gospel, Jesus challenges us to remember that the goods of the world are intended to be shared by all. Read aloud Luke 12:13-21. Talk about the parable of the rich fool and ask family members to describe what they think he did wrong. Emphasise that although the man in the story doesn't seem bad, Jesus points out that this man's flaw was that he was thinking only about himself and his own comfort and security. Emphasise that when we fail to think about the needs of others, we call that a sin of omission.
Remind your children that each time we go to Mass, we ask forgiveness for what we have done and for what we have failed to do. We call this prayer the Confiteor. End this time together by praying the Confiteor:-
I confess to almighty God and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned, in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done, and in what I have failed to do;
through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault;
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin, all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters, to pray for me to the Lord our God.
From Our Principal
What an absolute cracker of a day that we were blessed with to celebrate Grandparent's Day and to acknowledge the wonderful gift that grandparents play in our lives. It was just so good to see so many families in our school grounds taking advantage of spending valuable time with each other. We enjoyed a beautiful liturgy and then following that, families were able to browse through the Bookfair and enjoy a shared lunch. I just cannot express how much I love this day in the Church's liturgical year, when we honour the grandparents of Jesus, Saints Joachim and Anne. We celebrate Mother's Day and Father's Day, and Grandparent's Day is right up there in importance as we acknowledge and pay tribute to these special people. This was a lovely way to celebrate and reconnect with our St Brigid's community.
Not long to go now before the St Brigid's Wakakirri Troupe make the trip to Brisbane to take part in this nationwide competition. This is the 3rd year that our school, under the co-ordination of Mrs Kennedy, has entered and this will be the first time that the Troupe is able to make it to the stage in Brisbane. Our dancers and stage hands will head up to Brisbane on Wednesday 10th August and we wish them all the very best. There will be an opportunity for our school community to view their performance prior to "going live" on stage in 2 weeks time.
Take care and have a wonderful week,
Tony
Assumption of Mary
On Monday 15th August we will be celebrating the feast of the Assumption of Mary with a whole school mass commencing at 12 noon in Our Lady of Sorrows Church. All families and friends are most welcome to join with us on this day as we acknowledge the special person of Mary and how she was taken up into heaven, body and soul.
2022 Athletics Carnival
Though the weather did not work in our favour, we were still able to hold a modified Athletics Carnival utilising the grounds of our school and the Kyogle High School. In between showers, students were able to take part in the field events and the 100m and 200m races. Many thanks to Annette Smith, Todd Smith, Krystal-Lee Hyde and Fiona Pratt for your valuable assistance in timing our running events. A big vote of thanks to Mrs Love for all of her work in co-ordinating the Carnival through the very difficult weather conditions.
At this stage we still have a couple of the younger students to complete their field events before we can finalise these results.
Congratulations to the following students who were presented with their medals yesterday as the champions and runners-up for their respective age groups:-

COVID Update
As always, we appreciate your support when it comes to your child/ren being unwell in that you keep them home until they are well enough to return. If you or someone in your family tests positive for COVID, students are still able to attend school. It is recommended that they wear a mask whilst at school.
We are maintaining our COVID safe practices here at school by ensuring that we:
* Stay home if unwell or showing any symptoms & not returning until we are fully recovered
* Rapid antigen test when exhibiting symptoms & for close contacts who are able to be at school
* Practice good hygiene including regular hand washing & sanitising before eating & entering classrooms.
RATs are available on request and can be sent home with your child/ren as needed. If you require RATs, please email the school (kyogp@lism.catholic.edu.au). We appreciate your support in helping us to keep our school community safe and well over the coming weeks.
Tell Them From Me
In the coming weeks, we will be inviting students, teachers, teacher assistants, and parents to provide feedback on their experience of our school using an online survey. The surveys are an important part of our whole school evaluation and planning process.
We would like to invite you to complete the Tell Them From Me (TTFM) Partners in Learning survey. As we value the role of parents and carers within our school community we would greatly appreciate your feedback. The information you provide will be used to maintain our commitment to working together in partnership to further improve student learning and wellbeing here at St Brigid's Primary School.
The survey is anonymous and will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Please look out in further newsletters for information on how to access and complete the parent survey.
Positive Behaviour 4 Learning
Focus for Week 2: We wait quietly in the undercover area and are settled when the second bell goes so that we are ready for our learning.

For those students who have nominated to participate in the Australian Maths Competition, the following will assist in your preparation:
- Problemo Student is a free problem-solving platform that allows students to test their skill in Mathematics and informatics. It’s packed with problems covering a range of topics and year levels. They can jump in anytime and try one question or work their way through a series based on a topic.
- AMT competition student practice portal. This is the same place students go on the day of the competition. We’ve added practice questions here so students can familiarise themselves with the online platform before the AMC.
