Reflection

The readings on Sunday offer various aspects of prayer for our consideration. There is the spiritual discipline of prayer itself, which is essential to the life of the disciple: there is the communal dimension of prayer; and there is the ministerial commitment that is born of prayer. Our personal prayer must be persistent. Like Moses and the woman in the gospel reading, we must be ceaseless in our prayer, not discouraged by difficulties that we might have to face. Regardless of how strange the first reading may appear to be, it very strongly emphasises the communal dimension of prayer.
As minister of the word, Timothy is admonished to keep preaching the gospel, to keep spreading the good news, to allow the scriptures to continue to be a source of wisdom for himself and, through him, for all of the people who hear him. To have this kind of facility with Scripture requires that one enter into the deep meaning of the Scriptures and make them the basis of one’s prayer. One must engage in what the monks call lectio divina, prayerful reflective reading of the scriptures. This practice, or spiritual discipline, gives us access to God and it also gives God access to us. It gives us the courage and the gentleness to teach, to refute, to correct. When our ministerial activity flows from prayer, it also flows from and strengthens right relationships with God and with the community. When this becomes a reality, the Son of Man will indeed find faith on earth.

Dear Families,
Welcome to Term 4 everyone. I hope all families were able to enjoy the school holidays and spend some quality time with your children. I look forward to a productive term of learning and growing together. It’s hard to believe it’s that time of the year when we welcome the Kindergarten students for 2026 this Friday. We welcome all of our new students as they commence the first of their 7-week Transition Program attending school all day in readiness and preparation for next year. We also extend a warm greeting to our newest Year 1 student, Shannon, and her parents, Sheena and Eddie. We welcome back Kelli Shedden from her maternity leave as our Assistant Principal Mission. We'd also like to extend a sincere thank you to Courtney Hyde for her dedicated time and service to St. Brigid's while Kelli was on leave. Courtney was an asset to our community and we wish her all the very best at St. Carthage's for Term 4.
Year 6 Excursion
Next Monday morning our Year 6 students and accompanying staff will leave from Ballina Airport bound for Sydney to start an exciting week which also takes in a busy schedule in Canberra. Whilst in Sydney the students will have the opportunity to visit Mary MacKillop Place, Toregna Zoo, a walk through The Rocks and a Guided tour of Opera House. The students will travel through to Canberra where they will spend the next few days at The Mint, Parliament House, Questacon and the Australian Institute of Sport. Please check our school Facebook page each day for an update on each day's activities. I thank Mr Rien Smith, a teacher from St. Mary’s for giving his time to accompany our students on the excursion.
Have a great trip Year 6!
Pupil Free Day
Please note that Monday November 24th will be a Pupil Free Day for all students. This is a crucial opportunity for our teaching staff to engage in professional development around the implementation of the new Creative Arts and Science and Technology Syllabuses for 2026. We thank you in advance for making alternative care arrangements for your children on this important day.
Pick Up Area/Swimming Pool
A friendly reminder that our after-school pick-up location is along Groom Street. There is also a walking line where a teacher will supervise students crossing the pedestrian crossing near the pool. After crossing the pedestrian crossing, students must continue walking down Summerland Way to meet their parents or walk further down the street as planned by their parents/carers. Please be aware that staff will not wait with students on the street corner while students wait for parents to pick them up or students from other schools to meet them. The corner of the pool is not a safe waiting area for students. If you are unexpectedly delayed and cannot collect your child by 3:20 PM, they can wait safely on the school's deck area instead of on the corner near the pool. I appreciate your cooperation in following these procedures to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
Exhibition
I’m excited for the upcoming Eucharistic Miracles exhibition created by St Carlos Acutis to be showcased in our Parish Hall next week. Everyone is welcome to join the special opening on Monday morning and the exhibition will stay open all week with daily scheduled events for anyone who wants to experience these powerful signs of Christ’s presence. This is such an inspiring event for St Brigid’s and our wider community!
Have a great week ahead!

Welcome back to Term Four!
It has been such a wonderful week returning back to St Brigid’s after taking twelve months maternity leave. I have had the most rewarding twelve months at home with my son Charlie and have had lots of questions about how he is doing from students upon my return which is lovely. I am excited to be back in a school community that I love so much and to be working with you and your children again. I look forward to getting to know the Kindergarten families and any new families to our school- please come and introduce yourself if you see me around. Term Four is BUSY and we kick off the term with the Eucharist Miracles Exhibition, our Parish Family Mass and Socktober initiatives.

Kicking Goals for Good: Our Socktober Challenge!
Our school is proud to participate in Catholic Mission's Socktober campaign for World Mission Month! Socktober is a fun, educational initiative inspired by children in developing countries who often play soccer with a simple ball made of rolled-up socks. It’s a wonderful way for our students to connect their faith to action and make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children overseas.

Socktober Details and Fundraising Goal
This year, all funds raised will support vital Catholic Mission projects, with a focus on empowering communities and children in Mpika, Zambia. Specifically, your generosity will help establish a crucial Maize Mill Project. This initiative will equip women with the skills and resources needed to process their own maize, providing a sustainable source of food and long-term economic security for their families who are facing drought and food shortages. By supporting Socktober, we are contributing to education, healthcare, and self-sufficiency for children and communities in need.
How your child can Participate
To celebrate Socktober and "kick goals for good," we have a fun-filled day planned:
| Crazy Sock Day | On Wednesday October 22nd, all students are encouraged to wear their craziest, funkiest, or most colourful socks with their uniform. |
| Chocolate Toss Challenge | Students can bring a gold coin donation if they wish to participate in a Chocolate Toss Game with their class. It’s a fun way to contribute, with every coin going directly to the Socktober appeal. |
| Recycled Sock Ball Fun | During class, students will design and create a recycled soccer ball using old materials. They will then get to use their handmade balls in a variety of soccer activities during their lunchtime, connecting them to the mission's message of solidarity. |
Please help us support this meaningful cause and teach our children the value of global compassion. Every sock, every gold coin, and every goal kicked will bring hope to a child in Zambia!

Parish Family Mass
We have Parish Family Mass on Sunday October 26th at 9am. We extend a warm welcome to all families to join us. As a part of the Mass our Parish will host the Jubilee boat. The boat is a travelling symbol of Hope that has journeyed throughout the Diocese this year. A special morning tea will be served from the school canteen after Mass so that families and parishioners have a final opportunity to view the exhibition of the Eucharistic Miracles that will be displayed in our school hall. We look forward to seeing you on Sunday!
Volunteer for Mass: Students, families, and parents are invited to participate in our next School Mass. To see the roles available and sign up, please use THIS LINK.
