Newsletter Term 1 Week 10 (Wednesday 6th April)
First Communion Congratulations
Congratulations to Parker Kennedy, Hannah Kennelly, Jessica Rogan and Noah Schneider who received the Holy Eucharist last Sunday, 3rd April for the very first time. It was a lovely celebration led by Fr Erick for these students and their families. Elisha and Katelin Roy from KPS also celebrated their 1st Communion. Many thanks to Mrs Esslemont and Mrs Walters for all their work in getting the students prepared for this special day and following up with all of the planning and arrangements. Many thanks to all students, staff and families who came along last Sunday to celebrate with our First Communicants.
Our First Communion
Our Gospel Reflection
This Sunday, called Palm or Passion Sunday, is the first day of Holy Week. Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday are called the Triduum, three days that are the highlight of the Church year.
During this week, your family might display a crucifix in a prominent place as a reminder of the salvation that Christ won for us. This can also serve as the focal point for family prayer during Holy Week.
Families can make it a tradition to read a portion of this Sunday's Gospel each day of Holy Week, providing ample opportunity for children to ask questions and respond to the events described there. In this way, the entire week can become a “way of the cross.”
Each day during Holy Week, the family can gather in a prayerful space with a crucifix as its focal point. The passion as found in Luke's Gospel might be read as follows throughout the week:
Sunday: Luke 19:28-40 (Gospel at the Procession with Palms)
Monday: Luke 22:14-23
Tuesday: Luke 22:24-38
Wednesday: Luke 22:39-71
Thursday: Luke 23:1-25
Friday: Luke 23:26-49
Saturday: Luke 23:50-56
After reading from the Gospel each day, the family might reflect on the reading together. Conclude your prayer time by praying the Lord's Prayer and/or singing an appropriate hymn.
From Our Principal
TERM ONE IS NEARLY DONE!
Thank you to each and every one of you for supporting the school as we
navigated this very tricky term. Beginning with our Covid restrictions, followed by a great deal of wet weather and catastrophic floods, many challenges were presented to all of us along the way. Disruptions to families, supporting families, absenteeism and assisting our flood impacted schools, ensured we were all kept very busy and "on our toes". Please continue to keep all of our community members in your prayers as they navigate health issues and flood issues… IT CERTAINLY HASN’T BEEN BORING! But ALWAYS at the forefront of our work has been our students and we are very proud of how they have kept the learning agenda occurring throughout the term.
We have seen them reach out to other students, keep their head down in learning and manage themselves, their emotions and behaviours in an extraordinary way. Thank you to the staff who just take every change and challenge in their stride. Their calm manner and resilience certainly leads the way for our school. We are very lucky to have such a terrific bunch working with our students.
The holidays will be a time to refresh, take stock of where we are at, and prepare for an action
packed Term 2. Stay safe during the holidays! We look forward to seeing everyone at the ANZAC
March on Monday 25th April and then at school on Wednesday 27th April.
I will be taking some Long Service Leave for the first 2 weeks of Term 2. In my absence, Mrs Condon will be Acting Principal. I look forward to being back at St Brigid's at the commencement of Week 3, Monday 9th May.
Take care,
Tony Hunter
The Underlibrary of Unofficial Histories
Yesterday, NORPA presented a theatrical delight called 'The Underlibrary of Unofficial Histories' to our Year 3 and Year 4 students. It was a highly engaging production based on the requirements of the Stage 2 History Syllabus; part immersive theatre, part game, and part interactive research. The story which unfolded, allowed the students to piece together a multitude of information they had mysteriously received via postcards, packages, and emails about particular characters and events in history. They worked together in teams, collaborating and utilising a number of skills to discover the puzzle clues that would help Zelda, a girl from the future, reunite with her long, lost brother Albus, and save all of history! The students were very excited and thoroughly enjoyed this learning experience which linked History and the Arts!

Returning Books
The end of the term is a good time to have a look in cupboards, under beds, in bags, and behind doors to see if any of our St Brigid's home readers or library books are there. If found, could these books be returned to school by the end of this week, please?

ANZAC Day March
The members of the Kyogle RSL sub-branch have invited all staff and students to join them in the commemoration of ANZAC Day 2022. All students are encouraged to represent our school by marching in the parade, wearing full school uniform and are most welcome to wear medals from family members who served in the Defence Forces.
ANZAC Day allows us to remember and reflect on the service and sacrifice of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZACs) landing on the Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey on 25 April 1915, during World War I. It also allows us to recognise and acknowledge the sacrifices of servicemen and servicewomen who have participated and died in all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.
Operation Flood Assist 2022 is currently being conducted in our region by Australian Defence Personnel, to assist communities devastated by recent flooding. What a great way to say 'thank you for your service', by attending this year's ANZAC Day Commemorations.
