Front Page with Year 6
Year 6 have had a very busy start to the year! In English, they have been learning about the story of Vincent Lingiari and the impact that he had on Aboriginal land rights in Australia. The song 'From Little Things Big Things Grow' has taken on a new meaning for them now that they know the context behind the song. In Religion, they have also been working hard on their project, which is to write their own school prayer. They have looked at the School Mission, Church Mission and Jesus' teachings to write something that encompasses the key learnings from these documents specifically for our school.

Our Gospel Reflection

Lent ends on a note of wonder. In the face of all the mighty works that God has already performed for the people, God promises something even more magnificent.
Throughout this season we have reflected on the marvels that God accomplished in the lives of the people, cutting a covenant with Abraham, leading the people out of bondage, revealing God's own personal name, bringing them into a land that is bursting with life. Now God says: You haven't seen anything yet.
The first reading proclaims that something new is about to appear. In the gospel, this new thing unfolds before our eyes. Here we see Jesus neither rejecting the law nor changing it. Instead, he shows that the law, as good as it might be, serves something higher. He shows that the mercy and compassion of God exceed the authority of the law. Once again we see that the readings of Lent are less concerned with mortification and penance than they are with divine graciousness and our response of joy and thanksgiving.
Paul is not satisfied with the blessings of the past. In fact, he considers them rubbish when compared with knowing and being united with Christ. Life with Christ transforms us from people who are caught in sin to women and men who have been forgiven. Life in Christ is the new thing that God has fashioned for us. God is the one who creates something new; we are the ones who are re-created.
From Our Acting Principal

I would like to congratulate the children and their families who celebrated the Sacrament of First Eucharist last Sunday at our Family Parish Mass. Many thanks to Mrs Hyde and Mrs Schneider for their work in coordinating this for our students.
On behalf of St. Brigid’s, I would like to offer my condolences to Fr Erick and his family on the recent passing of his sister, Claudia. May she rest in peace.

Focused Classrooms
This week we have had a continued focus with our work around the four evidence based practices for Focused Classrooms:
- Establish a system of rules and routines from day one. Students should have predictability and structure that provide them with certainty about what is expected.
- Explicitly teach and model appropriate behaviour. Students need to know how to perform the roles expected of them.
- Hold all students to high standards. Students should feel valued and supported in their learning and know that they are capable of achieving their learning goals.
- Actively engage students in their learning. Students should be encouraged to actively participate.
During our most recent Professional Learning, staff focused on the concept of Neurodiversity, with our system Inclusion Officer (Viveca Larcher), our Visiting Autism Teacher (Kate Mayo) and our Inclusion Teachers (Laura Macdonald and Samantha Lynch).
Neurodiversity is a term that is used to describe the natural range of diversity that exists in human neurodevelopment. Although all people process the world differently, some differences are grouped and named. The neurodiversity of a community arises from the presence of different brain types (also known as ‘neurotypes’).
There is a majority neurotype (known as ‘neurotypical’) and there are minority neurotypes (known as ‘neurodivergent’). Neurodivergent brains process the world in a way that differs from neurotypical brains. Well-known forms of neurodivergence include autism, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and learning differences (such as dyslexia). Many people are also ‘multiply divergent’ (that is, they have more than one different neurotype, for example: autism and ADHD). Many neurodivergent people believe that there is no “normal” or “healthy” type of brain or mind, or one “right” style of neurocognitive functioning.
Overall, the Neurodiversity Paradigm — which centres the lived experience of neurodivergent people — implements a strengths-based, rights-based, and neurodiversity-affirming approach, which seeks to embrace individuality.
Understanding neurodiversity provides a strong platform for teachers, students and parents to engage in conversations, share learnings and provide amazing opportunities to build safe and supportive learning environments for all students as we continually work towards focused classrooms.

Congratulations
On Sunday, we had our Whole School Parish Family Mass. Congratulations to some of our Year 4 students, who received the Sacrament of Holy Communion for the first time. After Mass, we enjoyed a beautiful cake and treats as the children played. Thank you to all the families who attended.

Sacrament of Confirmation Save The Date
We are pleased to invite you to mark your calendars for the Sacrament of Confirmation, which will take place on Thursday, 22nd May 2025.
For families of Year 3 students who would like to receive the Sacrament, we will be holding an Information Session on Wednesday, 30th April at 5:00 pm in the School Library. This session will provide important details about the preparation process and requirements for your child’s Confirmation.
We encourage at least one parent or carer to attend. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Holy Week Liturgy
On Thursday, April 10th, we will hold a Liturgy in the Church to remember Holy Week. The liturgy will begin at 1:45 p.m., and all classes will be involved. After the liturgy, we will draw the Easter Raffle. All are welcome to attend.

Easter Rafffle
We are once again holding a giant Easter raffle to raise funds for Project Compassion during Lent. Students can bring in an item to donate towards the raffle, a small egg, bunny or anything Easter related is appreciated. We hope to have HEAPS of prizes for students. Tickets are on sale at school for $1 each or 3 for $2. Thank you for your support. The raffle will be drawn at our Holy Week liturgy on Thursday, the 10th of April at 2pm.

Positive Behaviour 4 Learning (PB4L)

Understanding Our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Approach
At St Brigid’s, we are committed to fostering a positive and respectful learning environment through our Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework. This approach ensures that all students understand behavioural expectations and are supported in making positive choices.
Responding to Unexpected Behaviours
Our PBS framework distinguishes between minor and major unexpected behaviours.
- Minor behaviours are managed by classroom teachers through a structured process.
- Major behaviours are managed by School Leadership.
When a minor unexpected behaviour occurs, teachers follow a three-step process to guide students back to positive behaviour:
- Rule Reminder – The teacher provides a gentle reminder of the expected behaviour and may redirect, reteach, or allow a short rest break to help the student refocus.
- Warning – If the behaviour continues, the student engages in a Four Question Process to reflect on their actions and how they can make a better choice.
- Behaviour Reflection – If the behaviour persists, the student participates in a lunchtime restorative conversation to reflect on their behaviour and discuss ways to improve in the future.
Consequences for Ongoing Behaviour Reflections
To encourage accountability and responsibility, students who receive three Behaviour Reflections within a term will not be able to participate in our Rewards Day event. Our PBS framework is designed to support students in making positive choices while maintaining a safe and respectful learning environment for all. We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations at home. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us.
Thank you for partnering with us in fostering a positive school culture.
Wellbeing Team
Attendance Is Impactful
School attendance plays a significant role in mental health and overall well-being for several reasons:
- Social Interaction: School provides a space for children and teenagers to interact with their peers, build friendships, and learn social skills. Regular attendance allows students to develop a sense of belonging, which is important for mental well-being. Isolation or lack of social connection can contribute to feelings of loneliness or depression.
- Routine and Structure: Having a set schedule and activities throughout the day helps students manage their time better and gives them a sense of purpose. A lack of routine due to frequent absences can lead to feelings of anxiety or uncertainty.
- Academic Engagement: Consistent attendance helps students stay engaged. Struggling with missed lessons or incomplete work can cause stress and anxiety, affecting mental health. School attendance ensures students are keeping up with their learning, boosting their confidence and reducing academic-related stress.
- Support Systems: Schools often provide access to counseling services, teachers, and other mental health resources. Regular attendance allows students to benefit from these support systems when they’re feeling stressed, anxious, or overwhelmed. Teachers and school staff can also notice changes in a student’s behavior and provide help early if there are concerns about their mental health.
- Sense of Achievement and Self-Worth: Being present and actively participating in school can help build a sense of achievement. This can be especially important for a student’s self-esteem and mental health. Missing school can lead to feelings of inadequacy or a lack of accomplishment, which might worsen mental health issues.
School attendance is closely linked to emotional stability, academic success, and a healthy support network—all of which are crucial for mental health and well-being.
