Front Page with Year 6
Year 6 had an AMAZING time visiting lots of different places while in Sydney and Canberra. We learnt a lot about how our country runs, how Parliament works, who shaped our democracy and how this has happened over the years. We saw lots of historic buildings while we were in Canberra like: Old Parliament House, Mary Mackillop Place and the War Memorial. Some of our favourite places were: Questacon, AIS, Taronga Zoo, Cockington Green Gardens and the National Dinosaur Museum. We had a super fun week away!
Our Gospel Reflection
OUR GOSPEL REFLECTION
Sunday’s Gospel offers us a powerful example of faith and persistence in prayer. Those around him rebuked Bartimaeus for his efforts to attract Jesus’ attention. When silenced by the crowd, however, Bartimaeus called out all the more. He is persistent and bold in his confidence that Jesus will show mercy on him and do what he asks. His persistence and great confidence that Jesus would help him reminds us of the confidence with which our children bring to us their needs. In their faith and trust we can find an example of the attitude with which we might approach God in prayer.
As a family, recall a request that has been made repeatedly by one family member to another. Talk about why the request continues to be made if the answer continues to be no. Then read together Sunday’s Gospel, Mark 10:46-52. After reading the Gospel, pose questions such as these to your family: Why must Bartimaeus be persistent in calling out to Jesus? (Some people in the crowd are telling him to be quiet.) What does Bartimaeus do when some try to stop him? (He calls out to Jesus all the more.) When Jesus stops and calls for him, what does Jesus do and say? (He restores Bartimaeus’s sight; Jesus tells Bartimaeus his faith has saved him.) When we pray, God wants us to be so confident he will help us that we don’t permit anyone to keep us from bringing our needs to God in prayer. Invite family members to identify the things they need most from God. Pray these prayers of petition together as a family, confident that God will hear and answer your prayers. Respond to each petition, “Jesus, Son of David, have pity on us.” Conclude by praying the Glory Be to the Father.
From Our Principal
Dear Families,
It was wonderful to be able to accompany our Year 6 students last week as they explored around Sydney and Canberra. The week was a very hectic and busy one with not much down time for lounging around. We had a packed itinerary and it was certainly difficult knocking on the doors each morning to wake the group up from their deep sleep. I am sure that they caught up on sleep over the weekend. One of the interesting highlights of spending a week away is seeing how the students interact and cope knowing that they are spending a full week away from home and with their peers. They were a great group of students to travel with and no doubt they have plenty to share about their trip. Many thanks go to Miss Macdonald and Mrs Myers for the planning and organisation that has gone into such a trip and learning experience for our students.
Kindergarten 2025 Family Information Session
All families of children starting Kindergarten in 2025 at St Brigid’s are invited to attend our next Information Session which will take place on Monday 4th November commencing at 5:30pm in our School Library. Looking forward to seeing our new and some of our current families at this event.
Enrolments for 2025
Enrolments for any class for 2025 are currently being finalised. Please, if you know of anyone intending to join the St Brigid's community for 2025, ask them to get their enrolment applications in now!
Our staffing allocation is based on our enrolments at Census, taken at the start of August. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or would like to enquire about enrolling here at St Brigid's for 2025 or even sooner.
Class Transitions for 2025
Each Friday we have our 2025 Kindergarten Transition Program taking place. This is a wonderful opportunity for our youngest students to become familiar with our school surroundings and routines prior to their commencement of school next year. This is a good opportunity to outline all of the upcoming transition and orientation days that will impact our students later in the year. Please keep these dates and times free so that the students can take part in their particular transition experience.
Welcome Back Aleeta Northey
It is with great pleasure that we welcome back to our school, acclaimed dance instructor and choreographer Ms Aleeta Northey. Aleeta was last with us in 2022 and we are so much looking forward to our Intensive Dance Week commencing on Monday 28th of October. Aleeta will once again bring her fabulous skills and talents to our children in the areas of performance and dance and turn every student into a dramatic dancing machine. I'm sure the students will thoroughly enjoy their time with such an experienced and well-credentialed performer as they prepare for their moment on stage when they perform their routines later this term.
Our current Year 6 students will be heading off to a variety of high schools next year and the following dates of the respective orientation days are as follows:-
Friday 29th November | St Mary’s Catholic College, Casino. |
Thursday 21st November (9am to 2pm) | Kyogle High School |
Tuesday 3rd December (9am to 3pm) | Kyogle High School |
Friday 8th November and Friday 22nd November | Casino Christian College |
Friday 6th December | St John’s College, Woodlawn. |
Friday 6th December | Trinity Catholic College, Lismore. |
Current students of St Brigid’s in Kindergarten to Year 5 will have their 2025 Step Up Session on Friday 6th December. This is when our students will spend a session of this day with their teacher for 2025.
Take care and have a wonderful week ahead,
Tony Hunter,
Principal

Wellbeing Team
Anxious about your child’s anxiety?
Anxiety is a normal emotion that helps to keep us safe. But often we get anxious about things that we don’t need to (a bit like a smoke alarm going off when we burn a piece of toast), and this can have a negative impact on our enjoyment and participation in life.
If you are concerned about your child’s level of anxiety, or would just like to learn more about how to help them reduce their anxiety and increase their resilience, Anxiety Coach could be for you.
This free, local course is aimed at parents and carers of children aged two to 12 years. It aims to help participants understand and identify anxiety in children and learn strategies to counter it.
Anxiety Coach is running for three Thursdays from Thursday, November 8, at CASPA Family Supports, 104 Centre St, Casino. Call 0266626792 or email casino@caspa.org.au to sign up or find out more.
Attendance Matters
EVERY DAY COUNTS!
As we approach the final term of the year, we want to highlight the importance of regular attendance for your child. With the Christmas season fast approaching, there are many exciting activities and events planned that enrich our students' learning experiences.
Consistent attendance not only supports academic progress but also ensures that your child can fully engage in the festive celebrations and special lessons we have lined up. Each day at school is an opportunity for growth and connection with peers.
We encourage you to help make school attendance a priority this term. Together, we can ensure a successful and memorable end to the year for all our students.
Thank you for your continued support!
One of our school goals this year is to have an average weekly attendance of 90% and above. The class with the best average each week receives the “Stars of the Week” trophy and certificate to display in their classroom.
