100 days of Kindergarten
The Kindergarten students were very busy last week with their 100 days of Kinder celebrations, Potato Olympics and best of all, collecting almost 140 non-perishable items to donate and hand deliver to the Kyogle Food Bank to help others in our community.
A very big thank you to all staff and parents who participated in our special day and donated to such a worthy cause. The students really appreciated your support!
Our Gospel Reflection
This week’s Gospel from John 6:41-51
There are times God seems to ask too much of us. We labour for others, but do not see the fruits of our labour. Our families take us for granted, and we are exploited at work. This is particularly trying when we only wanted to be of service to others, to help them wherever we could. What's the point of giving of oneself when it only seems to be futile? In this we are like Elijah.
There are other times when we are challenged to change our way of thinking and to accept what seems to make extraordinary demands on us. A new way of understanding church may call us to be open to the cultural diversity within the community. Or it might claim that we have a responsibility toward the poor and homeless in our midst. New biblical insights make us question our familiar understanding of God or of Jesus or of ourselves. In this we might be like the Jews who murmured against Jesus.
We want evidence to substantiate these radical new claims. But the evidence that Jesus offered could only be accepted in faith. And so it is with us. When we ask God for some kind of sign that will assure us that this new challenge is really what God wants, the answers received must themselves be accepted and understood in faith. The only assurance we have is rooted in faith, and those who are not open in faith will not understand. God does indeed ask a great deal from us.
From Our Acting Principal
We welcome Tony back to school next Wednesday after his Renewal and LSL. I would like to thank Annika Dicker who has been working as the AP of Learning and Teaching while I have been Acting Principal in Tony’s absence. Annika will finish at St. Brigid’s next Tuesday 13th August.
PUPIL FREE DAY
A Pupil Free day will be held on Monday 26th August which is Week 6. Staff will be working at school to begin planning and writing of our 3 Year Strategic Plan from the recommendations from our School Review at the end of Term 2. Please add this Pupil Free Day date to your calendar.
WAKAKIRRI
Eight-Six of our students have left school today to travel to Logan for their Wakakirri performance tonight. The Wakakirri dance story, Castles came from the inspiration from the artwork Maling by Lisa Aisato. I wish them all the very best and thank Hayley Kennedy, Tilly Beetge and Miss Sophie for the work that has gone into producing such an amazing performance.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
We will be holding a Public Speaking and Poetry Competition in Term 3. The finalists from each class will come together for a school final on Thursday 5th September with the students being selected for the Zone finals to be held in Lismore at St. Carthage's on Friday 20th September. Please add these two dates to your calendar.
Have a wonderful week ahead.

Assistant Principal - Teaching & Learning
NAPLAN
Students in Years 3 and 5 have received their NAPLAN individual student reports.
NAPLAN results are reported against proficiency standards, with student achievement shown against 4 levels of proficiency: Exceeding, Strong, Developing and Needs additional support. There is a standard for each assessment area at each year level.
- Exceeding: the student’s result exceeds expectations at the time of testing.
- Strong: the student’s result meets challenging but reasonable expectations at the time of testing.
- Developing: the student’s result indicates that they are working towards expectations at the time of testing.
- Needs additional support: the student’s result indicates that they are not achieving the learning outcomes expected at the time of testing. They are likely to need additional support to progress satisfactorily.
It is important to remember NAPLAN tests are one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. They complement ongoing assessments so that teachers can best support teaching and learning. The achievement demonstrated in classroom-based assessments and reporting through A-E grades provide parents with timely feedback on how their child is progressing.
We encourage you to review the results with your child and use them as an opportunity to discuss their strengths and areas for improvement. If you have any questions or would like further clarification on the results, please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher.

Acting Assistant Principal - Teaching & Learning

SONGS OF PRAISE:
Our lady of Sorrows Parish extends an invited to join in a special Songs of Praise event on Friday, 6th September at 10:30 am in the Church. This gathering is a wonderful opportunity for all community members to come together and celebrate the beauty of faith through song.

Bullying – important conversations to have with your child
St Brigid’s Primary School is participating in the Bullying No Way: National week of action – 12 to 16 August 2024.
By working collaboratively within our community, we can collectively help reduce bullying.
Parents and carers play an important role in helping your child understand bullying, and know how to respond to it.
If your child tells you about things at school, or you observe something in public that involves conflict or bullying, take the opportunity to talk about what bullying is. You can learn more about what defines bullying at bullyingnoway.gov.au.
Questions you could ask:
- What do you think bullying is?
- Have you seen it? How did you feel?
- Have you ever felt scared at school because of bullying?
- As well as me, who are the other adults you would talk to when it comes to things like bullying?
- Have you or your friends left other kids out on purpose? Do you think that was bullying? Why or why not?
- Have you ever tried to help someone who is being bullied? What happened? What would you do if it happens again?
Remind your child that bullying is never okay and discuss how they can respond safely if they experience or witness it.
Encourage them to seek help from a trusted adult and keep seeking support if needed.
By promoting open communication, we empower children to stand up against bullying and create a safer environment where everyone can feel that they belong.

Attendance Matters
Every Day Matters
When it comes to school attendance, every day matters. Taking just a few days off each month can set your child back years in their learning. The more time your child attends school, the more they'll be able to develop academically, socially and emotionally. If you're concerned about your child's attendance or any other issues that may affect this, please contact the school office for more information.

Working Together To Stay Healthy This Winter
Ensuring your family stays healthy throughout the 2024 winter season is more difficult than it sounds. Winter is usually the flu season for everyone, but especially for our young children. So, what is the magical solution? Well, there isn’t one unfortunately. However, to protect your family from getting sick, it’s important that you keep you and your child healthy and take precautionary methods at home.
- Instil good hand hygiene
- Maintain a healthy diet
- Stay hydrated
- Make sure your family get enough rest and leisure time
- Most importantly, take a moment to look after yourself
Your health matters!
Because we value the critical role parents and carers play as partners in educating and forming young people, we have compiled some helpful resources to support families at home.
